Recently relocated to New Orleans, Rainy Eyes headed up the Lonesome Highway (actually I-55) to Memphis for a Saturday night gig at Hernando’s Hideaway. With Graceland literally down the rain soaked street, Rainy Eyes was in the backyard of several of her musical influences, Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash.Â
Rainy delivered on her pre-show promise to include songs from her recently released album Lonesome Highway as well as some yet to be released material. Accompanied by her patented Martin guitar, the crowd was drawn in by her free flowing, behind the scenes tales of the songs on the setlist. Musically, Rainy bounced freely between country flavored Misty Mama to the Bo Diddley-esque Set Me Free. The video of Set Me Free is below. Â
Rainy Eyes has several more tour dates before the year’s end. She’s slated to head into the recording studio in 2025 where she told Slide&Banjo, “The next record will probably be a similar blend of styles. Even a little bit more rock. More screechy guitars, but an element of folk and acoustic. There will definitely be banjo and fiddle. I’m excited to keep experimenting with my musical blends and potions. It should be a fun, electric sounding, folky album with an extra hint of rock and roll.” Â
