Since the passing of Phil Lesh in late 2024, tributes have and continue to take place world wide. Several of Lesh’s “Phriends” used Jazz Fest as the perfect opportunity to come together and honor their late mentor. The Joy Theater hosted “A Dream We Dreamed” which helped kick off the second week of Jazz Fest in New Orleans. The roster was filled with a wide range of collaborators with direct ties to Lesh. Eric Krasno, Ross James, Aron Magner, Jay Lane, and Vinnie Amico held down the fort most of the night. Nicki Bluhm and Jennifer Hartswick elevated the vocals to a higher level the entire show. The night was filled with a revolving crew of musicians. Some sitting in for a song or two before disappearing into the late night New Orleans madness. Duane Betts, Ivan Neville, Karina Rykman, Al Schneir, and George Porter Jr. all left their unique stamp as they paid tribute to Lesh and his profound impact on them.
