In a world loaded with music festivals of all shapes and sizes, Cathead Jam in Jackson MS stands out for staying true to form. The sixth annual festival held June 5-6 at Cathead Distillery was the perfect blend of music and community.
On the musical side, the lineup flowed as seamlessly as the event, creating a through line of multiple genres that kept the audience constantly engaged. Equally noticeable was the laid back, community vibe throughout the distillery grounds. There was plenty of room to hang back and chat with friends or head to the stage and focus on the music.
Local bands Waterworks Curve and Pothole Paradise kicked off each day of the festival. Sixth Sense followed Waterworks Curve Friday afternoon. High Fade’s unique funk-rock spiked the energy before Kashus Culpepper’s blend of southern, country, soul wrapped up night one.
A humid afternoon greeted festival attendees’ day two with rain not far behind to cool things off. Intermittent rain showers throughout the day were no problem. The air-conditioned distillery had a DJ set between musical acts and was the perfect place to dodge the rain and reset.
Day two showcased the very talented and destined for wider acclaim Toubab Krewe and Shadowgrass. The jam band scene was well represented by Eggy and the legendary George Porter. A joyous set from Allen Stone (who is currently opening on for Chris Stapleton) was the perfect end to the 2026 festival.
Six years in and its obvious the Cathead Jam festival has found the perfect balance. Schedule a wide range of musical talent for a community welcoming them with open arms. Bring a chair or a blanket. Hang out with friends and listen to great music. That’s a great way to spend the weekend. Below is a gallery of photos from Saturday’s Cathead Jam.
